Kirkby Stephen Store Cattle Prize Show...
Dugdale Nutrition are proud to have sponsored the Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart store cattle February prize show and sale on Monday 6th February 2023.
On the day, there was a fantastic attendance with 502 head on offer and 50 active buyers present from far and wide.
The overall champion on the day was a 12-month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm in Austwick which was the top seller at £2700. The heifer was sold to judge and local quality beef cattle finisher Mr Alan Barnett. Great thanks goes to Mr Barnett for carrying out the judging in such an efficient manner.

The overall reserve champion was awarded to the first place steer, a 10-month old British Blue cross which sold for £1520 and was consigned by Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon.
Limousin cross steers sold up to £1775 for a 14-month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Akrigg, Manor House Farm, Skipton. The same house also sold Limousin cross steers to £1715, in which the consignment of 5 Limousin cross steers sold to average £1625.
Messrs Huck, Sowerthwaite Farm sold the second prize heifer, a 9-month old Limousin cross to make £1740 selling to Messrs Grainger, Wigton. The same house also sold a 10-month-old British Blue cross steer for £1700 and a 9-month-old for £1600. The farm also sold Limousin and British Blue cross heifers for £1515 at 9-months and for £1485, £1465 (2), £1455, and £1425 (3) at 8-9 months, as well as a heifer for £1485 at 8-months.
The consignment of 17 cattle from Sowerthwaite Farm sold to average a fantastic £1553.24.
Messrs Pedley, Oaktree Farm, Barbon sold a 12-months old British Blue cross heifer to make £1720, with a 9-months old British Blue cross heifer selling for £1600 and 10-month old British Blue cross steer selling to £1515 from this same home.
Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale sold 10-month old Limousin cross heifer to make £1655, and 9-month old British Blue cross heifer to make £1555, British Blue cross steers from this home sold to £1515, £1485, £1475(2) and £1465 all at 10-month old.
Messrs Atkinson, Green Farm, Colby sold 10-month old Limousin cross steer to make £1545.
Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon sold a 10-month old British Blue cross steer to make £1515 and a 8-month old Limousin cross steer selling for £1515 also from this home.
Messrs Taylor, Gilts, Penrith sold a 9-month old Limousin cross heifer to make £1515.
Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange sold two 8 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1400.
Trade was flying on Monday at Kirkby Stephen once again, with steers averaging £1235.38 up £75.19 on the year and an overall sale average of £1216.85 being achieved for predominantly 8 to 12 month old cattle.
Plenty of smart well bred steers and heifers between 8-10 months old were sold between £1400-£1600.
